Susan worked for the Navy for 37 years. She moved from the San Francisco area to Washington 30 years ago. Upon retiring in the summer of 2021, she took a trip to the International Quilt Show in Houston. There, she saw students with beautiful fabric collages and was amazed that after just hours, these students had created beautiful collages. She fell in love with this new art form and was immediately hooked. Fast forward, and she decided to become
a certified Laura Heine Fabric Collage instructor and share this art form. Not only does she enjoy creating fabric collages, she loves teaching this technique to others.
Susan is not a quilter. She is just now making her first quilt with friends and YouTube help. Susan says, “Soon I’ll be a new quilter. I’m such a beginner at cutting/following a pattern, that I do the block first with scraps and then cut the “real” fabric.” She also does wool appliqué and English
paper piecing.
She lives in Bremerton with her husband and dog, a border collie. She raised 2 sons, and has 3 grandsons. No girls in the bunch.
“I think, I’m a good teacher because I enjoy it so much, I’m so happy when I teach, teaching is my bliss! And there is not a shy bone in my body.”
